Education

Leith’s Dance lives and works in a multicultural society in which dance is a key expression of culture.
Leith’s operates on the assumption that the richer the fusion of cultures within society, the richer, more interesting and more relevant the dance can be.

Leith’s uses this policy as the starting point for encouraging participants to develop belief in themselves. Leith’s also serves as a role model for all the participants in a workshop by giving them positive attitudes towards each other regardless of such matters as gender and race, without any segregation through dance. There are no restrictions on taking part in Leith’s workshops, which are based on an insistence that everyone is involved without denying that some participants will have a greater ability and/or natural aptitude for
Leith’s ideas of dance and choreography.

Leith’s takes its educational work very seriously and is strongly committed to taking the best professional artists out of the theatre and into the community, involving young people, adults, and college students through direct participation in our education work.
Leith’s undertakes up to 20 weeks per year of educational residencies. A dedicated and experienced team of tutors guarantee a very high standard of teaching, and participants invariably warm to
Leith’s charismatic and uninhibited style of teaching. As a result,
Leith’s workshops are in great demand. Over the years,
Leith’s has worked with age groups ranging from 6 – 60 years old, including those with special needs. We mainly work in schools and colleges.

Welcome to Leitha’s School of Dance and Drama

Leitha’s School of Dance and Drama

The School of Dance is one of the schools of study in the Performing Arts department at Leith’s.  The aim of the School is provide dancers with an all-round preparation for a dynamic and innovative dance profession through the development of dance techniques and natural ability to their maximum potential.  Strong emphasis is placed on creativity and professionalism whilst retaining the established tradition os of technique and discipline.

We strongly believe that these values transcends all styles of dance and not just restricted to traditional art forms such as ballet.  To this end, our course structures and contents maintain the same high standard and rigor across all dance styles.  This ensures that all our dancers have the opportunity to acquire the discipline, versatility and breadth of skills demanded by the profession today.

The unique structure of the courses involve vocal and dramatic training and performances in professional theatres through our two in-house dance companies.  Matmara (junior) and The New Beginning Dance Ensemble (Senior).  Our more advanced students have the opportunity for placements in Europe through our links with institutions in Germany and Ukraine.  Through our international links, we regularly have world renowned dancers and choreographers giving masterclasses and performances.

We have a team of highly experienced and dedicated staff to ensure that by studying with us you will get the best chance of success.
